Max Johns is a designer for theatre, opera and film based in Bristol and London. He trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School with an MA in Theatre Design and prior to this a BA in Drama and German from the University of Bristol. He was the recipient of a BBC Performing Arts Fellowship Award in 2015.
Recent work in the UK has included productions at the Young Vic, RSC, National Theatre Scotland, Royal Lyceum Edinburgh, Birmingham Rep, the Bush, Kiln, Leeds Playhouse, Royal Festival Hall, V&A Museum, The Yard, Bristol Old Vic, Tobacco Factory Theatres, The Orange Tree and Theatre Royal Bath.
In Germany Max has worked at Maxim Gorki Theater, HAU, Kampnagel, Radialsystem, Ballhaus Ost, and WLB Esslingen.
Max has a strong interest in sustainable theatre production and has created a framework for designers here. He has also created a framework on anti-racism in theatre practice here.
